Il nuovo microfono TLM 102 a condensatore con diaframma largo, definisce una nuova generazione di prodotti da studio firmati da Neumann. Nato espressamente per riprodurre la voce cantata, il parlato e tutte le applicazioni in ambito broadcast, si propone come ideale sistema di cattura anche dei suoni provenienti da strumenti particolarmente dinamici, dal sound aggressivo e generoso, come le percussioni, la batteria, gli strumenti a fiato e quelli amplificati. Dal punto di vista tecnico il TLM 102 è un microfono a condensatore con diaframma largo, con caratteristiche di cattura a cardioide, direzionale, (trasduttore a gradiente di pressione), compatto di dimensioni - inferiori rispetto al fratello TLM 103 - ma dalle classiche 'caratteristiche caratteriali Neumann'. La capacità di sopportare grandi pressioni sonore massime si accompagna a una leggera enfasi sopra i 6 kHz e l'impiego di tecnologia che evita l'impiego di trasformatore.
