The electric guitar is a type of guitar in which the vibration of the strings is detected by one or more pick-ups. The signal is then taken at the output and conveyed to an amplifier so that the sound of the instrument is made audible. It is possible to add effects such as distortion, chorus, reverb to obtain thousands of sounds. Suitable for those who want to start with a more direct approach to Rock! But don't forget the amplifier!
Electric Guitars: Which One to Choose?
The choice of electric guitar must be made base on the type of sound you want to obtain. In fact, there are electric guitars with different configurations and types of pickups and therefore with a very wide diversity of sounds. For example, the Fender Stratocater has a pickup configuration composed of three "single coils" among the most appreciated by the most important blues/rock guitarists on the planet such as Eric Clapton , David Gilmour , Mark Knopfler, Stevie Ray Vaughan and many other sacred monsters of Rock music. Another widely used pickup configuration is the HSS, or "Hambucker-Single Coil-Single Coil" which offers the guitarist a more powerful sound using the neck pickup and therefore also exploiting greater power in the distorted sound. Many famous guitarists use this type of electric guitar , such as, for example, Steve Vai , Yngwie Malmsteen , just to name a few. There are other configurations with double Humbucker in the case of Gibson electric guitars that are characterized by their powerful and full-bodied sound especially on distorted ones. Precisely for this reason they are used more among the most important hard rock guitarists.
Fender or Gibson electric guitar?
Which electric guitar to choose between Fender or Gibson ? It is one of the most frequently asked questions that our department experts answer. Ultimately we can say that Fender electric guitars are preferable when you want to play in a rock/blues/pop context and therefore have a versatile guitar that adapts well to most needs. On the other hand, Gibson guitars , thanks to their full-bodied sound, are very suitable both when we need a powerful and full-bodied clean (often required in Jazz) and for a very "bad" distorted sound.
