Microtubes 500 is Darkglass' 500 Watt head that integrates the renowned Microtubes distortion system inside an electric bass amplifier.

The Microtubes 500v2 is a 500W amplifier featuring an all-analog preamp, custom-designed Darkglass high-efficiency Class-D module, ultra-quiet graphic equalizer and digital impulse response cabinet emulator for DI or headphone outputs.

With increased ruggedness, improved EQ, studio-grade compression, impulse response cabinet emulation, and MIDI control, the Microtubes 500 v2 offers all the options the modern professional bassist needs in a compact, elegant package.

A new, custom-designed Darkglass high-efficiency Class D power amplifier module is at the heart of this new 500-watt amplifier line. It allows the use of cabinets with impedances down to 2 Ohms, adding a new level of flexibility to the speaker options available. A much-requested new feature is cabinet simulation, which uses an improved version of the Cab Sim module. The module features three slots for high-resolution impulse responses, active for both the headphone output and the balanced XLR DI output. A single-knob compressor with intelligent gain has also been added to ensure level consistency, while a new ultra-quiet graphic EQ replaces the previous 4-band EQ.

- 500W amplifier with distinctive Darkglass distortion engines

- Cabin simulation with 3 selectable impulse responses

- Studio-grade 6-band graphic EQ and intelligent compressor

- Expanded connectivity with aux input, headphone output and DI output

Darkglass Suite

Using the desktop version of Darkglass Suite allows you to select and use any impulse response available in the provided library, as well as load your own custom impulse responses. Additionally, you can control the amp channel settings for the Super Intelligent footswitch.

Front Panel Features

INPUT

Use this jack to connect your instrument using a standard ¼" mono cable.

PASSIVE/ACTIVE

Use this push button switch to switch between passive and active modes. If the bass is active, the signal may be warmer and the amp may distort sooner (if you want additional distortion, feel free to use it).

MICROTUBES

This button turns the Microtubes Engine on or off to add natural compression, organic harmonic enhancement, and saturation ranging from light overdrive to high bass gain.

The Microtubes Engine operates before the clean section (so in addition to the Tone knob described below, you can use the 6-band active EQ for further tone shaping).

COMPRESSION

This knob controls the amount of dynamic compression added to the Microtubes Engine. The compensation gain is adjusted automatically. Compression can be turned off or assigned via the Darkglass Suite.

DRIVE

This knob controls the amount of distortion the Microtubes Engine can deliver. It goes from a smooth and warm overdrive to a massive and modern distortion sound.

LEVEL

Use this knob to control the output volume of the Microtubes Engine.

BLEND

Use this knob to mix the clean signal and the distortion signal (Microtubes Engine).

TONE

This knob controls the high harmonic content of the Microtubes Engine via a variable low-pass filter: turn it up for more attack and definition, or turn it down for a smoother sound – especially useful if you already use clean, bright EQ settings or cabinets with tweeters.

B3K/VMT

This pushbutton switch lets you select two overdrive voicings: The B3K mode offers an aggressive, percussive sound, while the VMT raises the mids for a warmer, more neutral character.

BASS

+-12dB at 80Hz. Use this slider to change the low frequency content of the signal.

MIDS

+-12 dB at 250, 500, 1.5 and 3 kHz. These sliders control the average content of the signal.

TREBLE

+-12 dB at 5 kHz. Use this slider to change the high content of the signal.

MASTER

Use this knob to control the overall volume of the amplifier.

MUTES

Use this button to turn off the amplifier.

Rear Panel Features

SPEAKER OUTPUT

Use this connector to connect the amplifier to the cabinet. This Speakon combo jack allows operation with either Speakon cable or ¼" speaker cable.

WARNING: Do not use an instrument cable with this jack. Using an instrument cable may damage the amplifier.

SEND

Use this output to send the signal to effects pedals.

RETURN

Use this input to receive the signal from effects pedals. The master volume control is located after this input.

GROUND LIFT

Use this control to raise the ground of the XLR DI output. If you experience ground noise in the DI signal, try changing the setting of this control.

OF OUTPUT

Use this connector to send the signal to the console, mic preamp, interface, etc. Both signals (Bypass and amplifier signal with cabinet simulation) are available and are switched by the cabinet select switch.

USB

The USB connector allows you to use the Darkglass Suite to load different cabinet pulses or tweak different amplifier parameters.

HEADPHONE OUTPUT

Plug in your headphones and enjoy the impulse-based cabinet emulation.

AUX-IN

Use this connector to play music from your laptop, phone, MP3 player, etc. This input is routed to the headphone output only.

CABINET SELECT

Use this switch to choose between the 3 different cabinet pulses or the clean DI signal. This selection will define both the XLR and headphone output signals.

FOOTSWITCH

The Intelligent Footswitch is a proprietary digitally controlled device that allows you to remotely turn the Microtubes Engine on and off. You can also press and hold the footswitch to mute the amp. You can also press and hold the footswitch to mute the amp. The distortion button remains functional even with the Intelligent Footswitch engaged.

- To connect the amplifier to the footswitch you can use a regular mono instrument cable.

- If you want to control the amplifier from the front panel, you need to remove the cable from the footswitch socket on the rear panel.

AC SOCKET

Use this connector to power the amplifier. 100 - 230 VAC, 50-60 Hz. Set the voltage selector to the correct position before switching on the amplifier!

AC POWER ON/OFF

Use this switch to turn the amplifier on or off.
