The splash cymbal is inserted into a drum kit or percussion set. It is the smallest of the most common types of cymbals, ranging from 6 to 12 inches and having a minimum thickness. The sound it produces is very high-pitched and short-lived, in fact this instrument is used specifically where fast or syncopated accents are required that do not require excessive volumes.
Very popular in the jazz-fusion genre, while less used in rock and related styles.
